Pinned post

I never did my post so I guess I'll do so.

I'm a mid-40's guy living in Raleigh, NC, US. Love it here tho I wish I were in the mountains.

I love to go and going to . is a big part of my life. I have 3 tattoo's all based on bands that have influenced my life. I dabble in but mostly landscape. Love my to help with said photography.

Part 2: gthr.site/w1f0t

I've been trying to set up and the headaches that it brings are astounding. I honestly have no idea how others are able to stand up their servers and get them running.

My .env file isn't being reflected in settings. (yes, I updated the cache). Can't use DigitalOcean Spaces tho seems to be supported. Redis server is erroring out for no reason.

I'm following online guides to the best of my ability. I got mastodon running just fine, as well as 20 other servers.

The layoffs will continue until executive morale improves.

“The plain fact is that the planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every kind. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these qualities have little to do with success as we have defined it.”

― David W. Orr, Ecological Literacy: Educating Our Children for a Sustainable World

I found a quote that agrees with my thoughts about Western capitalistic culture and concepts of success. We think all of this output, creativity, production, and accomplishing is the most important criteria of success, and we value people and give them status according to these metrics, but that fact is, this cultural value is killing the planet, and driving us to a point of becoming extinct from all of this "success".

As an an #IntenseWorld person, that is to say, #actuallyautistic, I find myself retreating and withdrawing from feeling alienated from the world of people and all of their expectations and judgements, so at the moment I'm not exactly flourishing.

Which is why I absolutely love this quote I found. It's often misattributed to the Dalai Lama.

mastodon.social, mastodon.online and joinmastodon.org were hit by a DDoS yesterday, thankfully joinmastodon.org was already behind Fastly so it didn't have any impact on it. We've now moved mastodon.online behind Fastly and will do the same with mastodon.social soon.

Anyone out there in the fediverse that is good with ?

I followed this guide: gthr.site/38hwk

It was super broken but managed to work through it - I can use the site - and navigate sites - but any interaction I get is server error 500. I can't create posts, change passwords, send verification emails. NOTHING in the console or the nginx logs that give an inkling of whats wrong. Any suggestions?

White-Winged Dove

I haven't seen any of these doves in a while. I looked at some range maps, and my location is shown as just outside their range. But I saw quite a few white-winded doves last year and suspect they may nest around here. I took this picture in October 2022.

"Originally a bird of desert thickets, the White-winged Dove has become a common sight in cities and towns across the southern U.S. When perched, this bird’s unspotted brown upperparts and neat white crescents along the wing distinguish it from the ubiquitous Mourning Dove. In flight, those subdued crescents become flashing white stripes worthy of the bird’s common name. Take a closer look and you’ll see a remarkably colorful face, with bright-orange eyes and blue “eye shadow.” - allaboutbirds.org

Common Grackle

Here's another grackle from the rest stop a few days ago.

"Those raggedy figures out in cornfields may be called scare-crows, but grackles are the #1 threat to corn. They eat ripening corn as well as corn sprouts, and their habit of foraging in big flocks means they have a multimillion dollar impact. Some people have tried to reduce their effects by spraying a foul-tasting chemical on corn sprouts or by culling grackles at their roosts." - allaboutbirds.org
